About the iP6700D
The iP6700D is an extremely user friendly, efficient machine designed to meet all your printing needs in one compact, stylish unit. Want to print out photos taken over the weekend, or fill an album with baby pictures right after your child takes his or her first steps? Need a hard copy of directions to a friends house or information from a web page? The single function iP6700D gives you more choices, more features and a better value, no matter what your needs. It also works fast, offering print speeds of 47 seconds for 4 x 6 inch borderless photos and 76 seconds for 8 x 10 inch photos. And the built-in two sided printing feature and second paper tray drastically reduce wait times. In addition, the iP6700D utilizes Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) technology and the ChromaLife100 ink system to produce high-quality, long-lasting photos. With smart LED equipped ink tanks and the Canon Advanced Paper Handling System, the iP6700D has the capabilities of a photo kiosk built right in.

Easy Operation and Exceptional Resolution
The iP6700D features 3,072 precision nozzles that create exceptional resolution of up to 9600 by 2400 color dots per inch (dpi). You'll also enjoy amazing, eye-catching detail in every print, thanks to microscopic one-picoliter sized ink droplets. Two high-intensity photo inks plus four conventional inks equals precise, life-like color. You get all this with simple, convenient operation. First, the iP6700D gives you the option to preview before you print. This way, you can fine-tune your images before you commit to printing them out. When you're ready, just connect your PictBridge ready digital camera, DV camcorder, or compatible memory card and print. It's truly that simple. For added convenience, the iP6700 also lets you print wirelessly right from your infrared-enabled mobile camera phone, or a compatible Bluetooth device, (using the optional USB Bluetooth adapter). You can do all this quickly and easily thanks to the USB 2.0 interface, which enables the fastest possible image transfers.

Canon ChromaLife100 System For Image Permanence
The iP6700D uses Canon's ChromaLife100 system, including FINE print head technology for vivid photo printing. When using select genuine Canon photo papers and inks, prints can resist fading for up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album. The 100-year-lifespan rivals that of many traditional film based photos, long considered by consumers to be the benchmark for image permanence. Prints produced on Canon Photo Paper Pro with ChromaLife100 inks have an up to 10-year gas fastness when exposed to open air. Additionally, ChromaLife100 prints, when created using Canon Photo Paper Pro or Photo Paper Plus Glossy, have up to 30-year lightfastness when displayed under glass.

Canon FINE Engineering
Launched globally by Canon in 1999, the Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) advanced print head technology is one of the keys to the impressive speed and high photo quality in PIXMA photo printers. FINE technology uses a ground-breaking high-performance, multi-nozzle print engine that ejects consistent and microscopic ink droplets. The results are high-resolution photos with great detail and clarity in less time.

What's in the Box
Pixma iP6700D photo printer, print head, ink tanks (CLI-8 black, CLI-8 cyan, CLI-8 magenta, CLI-8 yellow, CLI-8 photo cyan, CLI-8 photo magenta), power cord, easy setup instructions, document kit (setup software and user's guide CD-ROM, quick start guide, direct printing guide, registration card, and cross sell sheet.)

1 out of 5 stars Prints too much orange and red, everyone comes out sunburnt   October 27, 2008
My husband bought me this printer for my birthday and at first I was thrilled with the crisp quality of the photos, the user-friendly interface of the software, and the ease with which I was able to connect my laptop, upload photos, and just print. My parents were thrilled with the new batches of photos coming every week of my then-infant daughter.

But after a month, I started noticing that the pictures looked a little funny. My daughter always looked a little bit too pink.

It wasn't quite so noticeable at first--it always appeared like she just had a healthy flush to the skin. But photos of myself (and I have an asian complexion) looked way too orange. This is even though I was using the more expensive Canon Photo Pro paper. I started printing more and more photos and noticed that my white couch, my beige chair, my cream colored walls -- they all appeared pinkish or orange-ish in all the photographs. I knew there was a definite problem when I took out the ink cartridge and noticed that the blue ink was about 75% full and the red ink was about 10% full. Unless I was consistently taking pictures of apples or Arizona sunsets, that should not be happening.

Since we were still under warranty, we contacted Canon and they informed us that we had to take it to an authorized repair shop. Luckily, there was one in Philadelphia near us, but it took a 40 minute drive to get there and drop it off. (There were very few service centers in general; I imagine that if you were stuck in the middle of Pennsylvania, for instance, you'd have to pay to ship it in.) It stayed in the shop for a couple weeks only for us to pick it up and be told "There's nothing wrong with it." We called Canon and told them that the problem still existed after bringing it home and still getting pink photos. Brought it back to the repair shop...again. Told once again that there was nothing wrong with it, even though this time we were armed with photographic evidence of our too pink/orange family and furniture. They glanced at the photos and when we suggested that they print one of our photos from the JPEG (we had it on a CD for them), they scoffed.

Ultimately, Canon sent us another printer and included a return postage label for us to return the defective one. YAY! Unfortunately, using the new printer, we saw the exact SAME problems. I scoured the internet in search of reviews or complaints that other people may have had similar problems. I did find two people who complained of the same, but that's it. At least one other person on this product review page mentioned that Canon had red cast problems with their ip6600 photo printer. I'm so disappointed that with the many many positive reviews of this product that I seemed to have gotten two duds. I wonder if anyone else may have had the same problems after extended use?

Will not be buying another Canon for awhile.

2 out of 5 stars Decent (expensive) image printing - When it prints   July 5, 2008

This printer is a complete ink hog. While I am not a fan of spending so much money on ink, my major complaint about this aspect, is that for such a thirsty printer, it uses extremely small ink cartridges. This means having to change them entirely too often, and doing your best to keep spares around.

The other annoyance is the paper handling. It regularly says that there is no paper, even though there is plenty of paper sitting there, sometimes I am forced to mess with the paper and press okay for each and every sheet. Occasionally it sucks in two pages. Sometimes it doesn't suck in a page, but proceeds to "print" anyway, which is extra frustrating considering what an ink hog it is. All of this is with approved paper, and the correct paper type selected in the properties.

However, when it has ink and feeds the paper correctly, it does make nice looking prints.

It definitely has not been worth the money, time and hassle cost overall, and I wish I had chosen a different printer.

3 out of 5 stars Beware Problems after a year and half   June 28, 2008

I bought this printer 12/2006 based on the above reviews. I've loved the printer up until this week. Now the paper simply won't feed properly and jams. Canon's help site says for this problem clean the roller. I've done that many times now to no avail. Their next advice is take it to a dealer. Well since there isn't a dealer for hundreds of miles from me that's a silly option for me.

Due to the fact that I have new print cartridges in the printer and some to spare, I'll probably buy another used one to see me through the ink. I'm disappointed and can't bare the thought of starting to review printers again.

1 out of 5 stars Beware   June 25, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Ink tank detection started giving incorrect messages 6 months after purchase with "Ink tank is empty." No ink tanks were empty. But there was a way to override and still print. Now the message is the U071-"More than one ink tank of the following is installed Cyan 8." Only one Cyan 8 is installed, and there is no way to override this message to be able to print. Technical support could only suggest replacing Cyan 8 or taking printer to a service center. Given the history of incorrect error messages, I am not investing any more money. I am trashing this printer after only 16 mos. Many customers seem to like this printer, but beware, you are playing Russian roulette if you buy this.
