Product Description
Blood. Sweat. Tears. Rock-N-Roll. That's what Halestorm's made of. The band, guitarist Joe Hottinger, bassist Josh Smith, drummer Arejay Hale and singer/guitarist Lizzy Hale churn out uncompromising rock-n-roll anthems on their self-titled Atlantic debut. Drawing from an arsenal of songs that she's penned since she was 13, Lizzy examines love and life on the edge while casting a hypnotic spell on listeners. Drawing from influences as diverse as Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, and Metallica, she has a dark sensuality that's undeniable. She exudes that feeling on stage and in the studio, because she's not afraid to be herself. She laughs, 'As a kid, when a lot of my friends were into Backstreet Boys, I attached myself to Alice Cooper, Cinderella, and Van Halen. I want to give the audience a ride and connect with them.' In the end, that philosophy will ensure Halestorm's longevity. 'This album has been a long time coming,' says Lizzy. 'There's been a lot of dirty work that went into making it. Creatively, we went to rock n roll college through the experience. It was crazy, raw, down and dirty'.

3 out of 5 stars Could have been much better.   February 22, 2010

Halestorm, fronted by Lizzie Hale, recently broke into the rock scene after touring with the likes of Shinedown, Seether, and Trapt, among others. With their eponymous debut album, Halestorm sent two songs, "It's Not You" and "I Get Off," to the top 20 on the rock music charts, instantly garnering them mass exposure and overnight fame. This led me to want to hear more of the young Pennsylvania rockers; unfortunately, I was less than impressed when I explored their album.

Both of the singles are quite catchy, and overall decent songs, but not every track on the album compares. Many of the songs are plagued by cliche lyrics and stock riffs, and though tracks such as "Familiar Taste of Poison" and "Innocence" showcase great vocals from Lizzie, the music is terribly generic. Lizzie's vocals are enough to keep me interested, but, save for the two singles, it took me until the eighth song on the cd, "Love/Hate Heartbreak," to choose another standout. This song is easily the strongest on the album, with a creative opening riff and lick, and powerful vocals. The album ends on a solid note, and I'd say the last four songs are the highlight of the disc.

I've heard Halestorm is much better live than on their album, and after hearing the album I can imagine why. There are some bright spots on this CD along with a number of catchy tunes, but when I scroll down the track list I struggle to pick out more than one or two standouts, and even those aren't songs I'd find myself playing over and over. I expect bigger and better things from Halestorm in the future, but their debut is quite average as a whole.

1 out of 5 stars Not creative whatsoever   February 18, 2010

It really is a shame because this girl does seem to have a pretty powerful, rock n' roll voice.
The music is pretty forgettable, and the sexual lyrics make me wish I could forget them. The shock I had at the tasteless sexual lyrics distracted me (at first) from the fact that the lyrics lack emotion, maturity, and creativity.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good   February 7, 2010

Popish female led melodic metal. That is how to describe Halestorm. Lucky for me I like that. Yes, it may sound like it is pushed to be more mainstream than other bands but how can you fault them. A band with no sales is not going to be a band for that long. "I Get Off" is my favorite track. Makes me want to run around my house in the buff and open the blinds while my dog tries to contain his laughter. "Bet U Wish U Had Me Back" is my second favorite but, what is this a text message? Song title with U instead of "You" got old when Prince did it in the 80's. The song sounds like a hard rock country song. I expect to hear Taylor Swift singing it on her next album. Personally, I like songs that can be reworked and done in different genres. I think it says a lot about the song and the writing.

If you like stuff like Nightwish, Within Temptation, After Forever you will probably like this. It is like those bands but not as serious.

5 out of 5 stars What a Great CD!   February 4, 2010
Rockanova (Seattle, WA)
I have quite a collection of CD's and the Hailstorm CD is one of the best. It has a fantastic lead singer and it rocks! I am definitely recommending this to anyone who likes great lyrics, rythym, and rockin' music. I look forward to buying another CD from the group and adding it to my collection. A definite AAA+ to rock lovers!
