Product Description Picture this; Traditional rock music that could hardly sound more classic, with gritty hooks, powerful riffs and leads, and lyrics full of eccentric humor, as well as a talent for observation and occasionally great depth. This is truly the case with UFO's newest release, 'The Visitor'. Due to the lineup of Mogg, Vinnie Moore, Andy Parker and Paul Raymond, it's no surprise that 'The Visitor' features the same musicality and energy which UFO fans have come to cherish from the band. Including almost a dozen new compositions, 'The Visitor' arrives in both CD and LP format.
Album Description 2009 album from the Classic Rock heroes. The three original band members, Phil Mogg (vocals), Andy Parker (drums) and Paul Raymond (guitar, keyboards) plus American world-class guitarist Vinnie Moore composed more than 35 tracks for The Visitor, 10 of which form the basis for the album. The Visitor sees the band benefiting especially from their collaboration with Vinnie Moore, who joined UFO in autumn 2003 and has made an excellent impression. It's no surprise that The Visitor features the same musicality and energy which UFO fans have come to cherish from the band's tours in the past five years. Traditional rock music that could hardly sound more classic, with gritty hooks, Vinnie Moore's powerful riffs and leads, and Phil Mogg's lyrics full of eccentric humor, as well as a talent for observation and occasionally great depth.

Thank god for SCHENKNER. THE BAND CONTINUES TO PUT OUT THESE VERY MEDIOCRE ALBUMS. January 17, 2010 Carl Linzner (Los Angeles) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Thank God for Schenkner. I have seen and followed UFO from the early 70's. The classic albums like Phenomena, Force It, Obsession, No Heavy Petting, and Lights Out are the base of there success. Strangers in the Night Live is the climax Live album and sadly the last of the best. At all of their live shows, which I have seen them 22 times in my lifetime, the great tunes from the Schenkner albums always make the shows, it is what the fans want to hear and define UFO as one of the greatest rock bands to influence so many. All the following albums with Paul Chapman and finally with Vinny Moore are just no match and cannot compare with the timeless hits with Schenkner, Mogg, Way, Parker, and Raymond. Vinny can really play Schenkner's riffs very well while interjecting his own style. No matter how hard they try the classics remain the true UFO and you should own them all. They play the best original songs every time when they are in town. Hopefully the crew will continue touring as long as they can. This album just doesn't do it. Own it, listened to it a few times, guess I'll just add it to my collection.
UFO Still Viable 30+ Years Later October 9, 2009 the_man_with_no_nickname (Suburban NYC) I've been a fan of this band since the mid 70s. Back then they were creating some great music at a time where you only had so many bands to choose from, and IMO UFO laid the foundation for what eventually became the melodic rock genre. The 70s era culminated with the double live "Strangers In The Night", one of the best live albums of the 70s. After that, they struggled for a period of time with many line up changes and inconsistency. Yet like a fighter getting off the canvas at 9, UFO gets up punching with "The Visitor". The musicianship and vocals being top notch is a no brainer, as we're talking real musicians playing real music here. What is a nice surprise is how good the songs are. Far more bluesier than anything they've done in the past, there are a slew of good songs on this CD:
Saving Me
Helldriver
Rock Ready
Can't Buy A Thrill
Villans & Thieves (my fav)
Stranger In Town
I've also seen them live and this band is lethal, performing not only a few newer cuts but all the old favorites as well. The three original members (Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Paul Raymond) are joined by Vinnie Moore on guitar and Rob Deluca on bass. Vinnie is an incredible guitar player and fits in well with UFO as he can easily play all of Schenker's leads but also plays within the scope of the newer material. Rob is a skilled bass player who throws off a great vibe during the performance and does Pete Way justice on all the older stuff. You will get more than your money's worth if you go see these guys!
Once again poor songwriting October 3, 2009 LIF (Long Island NY) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
First off I have always like UFO and their past history. They have produced some of the best classic rock despite commercial radio stations ignoring their incredible past. The pinnacle of their career was of course the Live album "Strangers In The Night". The Visitor is another story.
As bands age and produce newer records they do leave proof as to whether or not they still possess musical integrity. There has been a string of past newer CD releases from UFO and they all suffer from the same problem.
First off, the playing and sound quality is superb on this CD. You cannot argue with that. The songwriting on the other hand is less than to be desired. Listen closely to the material, (and also the prior last releases) and you will find the verses of the songs are all in the same meter and the same "melody". In other words songwriting wise there are no interesting woven catchy melodies to stick in your ear like proper ear candy should.
Every single verse of each song is exactly the same. The vocal parts thereby kill any of the wonderful instrumentation. This is the main problem with this release. It's cookie cutter paint by numbers vocals which translate to a dull and uninteresting product. This happens to be one big problems with a majority of heavy metal acts. To prove my point listen to the verse of Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the Universe" and then listen to all the verses on this CD. It's the same stock I, IV, V chord progression generic meter. It's just boring, dull and uninteresting.
Someone needs to tell whoever is writing the vocal parts (I am assuming Phil Moog) to cease writing and use well written songs by someone else in any future releases. A change like that will let them do what they do best and produce a release worthy of buying. He still has the pipes but he just needs to stop using the same lazy songwriting style. This is what will separate the cream from the dull and uninteresting.
Still going strong September 23, 2009 R. Amoroso (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ufo have matured over the years and yet again have produced another quality album. This album reflects their movement towards the blues side of their music and will not only be enjoyed by existing fans but will also attract a new audience who will then want to explore their history.
Long time fan perspective September 8, 2009 Tim (Roanoke VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'll keep this short. Big fan of UFO since the early days. This latest is a good effort. Better than Monkey Puzzle(previous CD), but not as good as You Are Here(first allbum with current guitarist Vinnie Moore). It sounds just like it was recorded. All members recording their parts, in dfferent places around the globe and then mixing it together. You just never get that feeling of energy or cohesiveness that you get when the whole band is in one room. Maybe that is being overly critical. You be the judge, but get You Are Here first.
